For everyone
The Leader
Instinctive centre · Types 8, 9 and 1 operate first from instinct: action, territory, survival.
“Tell me things frankly, I prefer it.”
The type
His core motivation
To be strong, master of his destiny and protector of his own. Type 8 takes up space, decides and moves forward. Beneath the shell, he defends a real sensitivity to injustice.
His great fear
To be controlled, betrayed or reached in his vulnerability. His dread: depending on someone who might abuse it.
His desire
To remain autonomous and respected, to protect his territory and the people he loves.
His compulsion: what he avoids at all costs
Avoiding weakness. He tests, provokes, ramps up to check whether the other person holds, and never to be the one who undergoes.
His passion (his dominant emotion)
Excess (“lust” in the sense of intensity): everything in him is bigger, stronger, more direct, including work and anger.
His virtue (his quality when he is at his best)
Innocence: the gentleness and trust of someone who no longer needs to defend himself constantly.
His belief that runs on a loop
Vengeance: returning blow for blow, never leaving an injustice or a betrayal unanswered.
His strengths
- Natural leadership, courage, decision-making ability
- Protects the weak and says out loud what others keep quiet
- Considerable energy, great endurance
- Frank, direct, you always know where you stand with him
His watch points
- Can intimidate without even realising it
- Difficulty showing his doubts and fragilities
- A tendency to power struggles and escalation
- Impatience with slowness and ambiguity
His comfort zone
In clear situations, where relationships are frank and where he can act. The 8 relaxes with “real” people, who stand up to him without betraying him.
In a real-life situation
In his family as in his company, he is the rampart: a tense negotiation, a hard blow, an injustice, people call him. Other people's children come to take refuge at his place, and his team knows that in a storm, he will stand in front.
His movements: integration and disintegration
When secure, he integrates8 → 2
The Altruist
When secure, the 8 opens up to Type 2: he becomes warm, generous, almost tender, and he protects those he loves gently instead of defending them like a warrior.
Under stress, he disintegrates8 → 5
The Observer
Under stress, the 8 slides towards Type 5: he withdraws, observes in silence, accumulates information and prepares his return, instead of charging as usual.
Wing 7 · The Epicurean
The 7 wing makes the 8 more expansive and go-getting: a charismatic leader, who carries people along through enthusiasm as much as through authority.
Wing 9 · The Mediator
The 9 wing makes the 8 calmer and steadier: a quiet strength, less provocative, who negotiates before imposing himself.
How to communicate with him
Do
- Go straight to the point, frankly: he respects those who do not beat around the bush
- Regard him as an equal and give him real responsibility
- Keep your commitments and voice disagreements to his face, early
Avoid
- Manoeuvres, unspoken things and stabs in the back: he smells them and does not forgive
- Trying to control him through rules or threats
- Confusing his intensity with systematic aggression
His verbiage: his typical phrases
At work
A striking force. Excellent in leadership, negotiation, crisis management, wherever decisions must be made under pressure. He benefits from showing his vulnerability judiciously: it is what transforms his authority into trust.
