For everyone
The Achiever
Emotional centre · Types 2, 3 and 4 operate first from the heart: relationships, image, identity.
“Concretely, what figure are we aiming for?”
The type
His core motivation
To succeed and be recognised for his results. Type 3 is an engine: he sets a goal, sticks to it and carries others along. His image as an effective person matters enormously to him.
His great fear
To fail and be perceived as incapable or worthless. His dread: public failure, which would strike at his very identity.
His desire
To be admired and respected as someone who succeeds at what he undertakes.
His compulsion: what he avoids at all costs
Avoiding failure. He adapts, accelerates, presents well, even if it means smoothing over difficulties or his own emotions.
His passion (his dominant emotion)
Deceit, first of all towards himself: he ends up believing the image of success he projects, to the point of losing touch with what he really feels.
His virtue (his quality when he is at his best)
Truth, authenticity: being himself, without needing to perform constantly.
His belief that runs on a loop
Vanity: organising his life around the image of success to be projected.
His strengths
- Energy, efficiency, a sense of results
- Adapts quickly to every audience and every context
- Natural leadership, he carries teams along
- Pragmatic: he finds the shortest path to the goal
His watch points
- Can favour image at the expense of substance
- Impatience with other people's slowness and emotions
- A tendency to overwork: he identifies with his job
- Avoids failures by reframing them or changing target
His comfort zone
In action and success: clear objectives, rising indicators, visible recognition. The 3 recharges his batteries by winning.
In a real-life situation
Sales target raised by 20% mid-year? While the others are still commenting, the 3 has already redone his dashboard and recontacted his three biggest prospects. At the end of the year, he is at the top, and he is also the first to take two weeks of holiday in a row so as not to crack.
His movements: integration and disintegration
When secure, he integrates3 → 6
The Loyalist
When secure, the 3 opens up to Type 6: he becomes loyal, cooperative, attentive to the collective, and dares to doubt and ask for help instead of carrying everything alone.
Under stress, he disintegrates3 → 9
The Mediator
Under prolonged stress, the 3 slides towards Type 9: he disengages, procrastinates, becomes surprisingly passive, as if the engine suddenly switched off.
Wing 2 · The Altruist
The 2 wing makes the 3 warmer and more charismatic: an achiever who knows how to create connection and look after his network.
Wing 4 · The Romantic
The 4 wing makes the 3 more introspective and creative: he takes care of his style and seeks to succeed in a distinctive way, not just an effective one.
How to communicate with him
Do
- Go straight to the point: objectives, results, deadlines. He loves efficiency
- Acknowledge his successes publicly, with facts and figures
- Give him challenges worthy of him and visibility on successes
Avoid
- Drowning him in details and procedures before talking about the result
- Publicly associating him with a failure without leaving him a way out
- Confusing his displayed confidence with a satisfied need for recognition
His verbiage: his typical phrases
At work
A project accelerator. Excellent in business development, project management, entrepreneurship, wherever decisions and delivery are needed. He benefits from distinguishing his worth from his results alone.
